The Employer Problem

Stop Starting From Scratch With Every New Hire

Cleaning employees do not all arrive with the same knowledge, or with any previous training at all. Clean-Skills Training provides a consistent foundation of commercial cleaning knowledge that employers can then build on through their own hands-on, workplace-specific training.

How it works

Different starting points

One new hire is completely new to commercial cleaning. The next arrives with years of established habits, some of them correct.

Trained differently depending on who trained them

What an employee knows ends up depending on which supervisor or co-worker happened to show them.

Practices carried in from somewhere else

Methods learned at a previous site continue quietly, whether or not they suit yours.

What Clean-Skills Is

Knowledge That Supports Hands-On Training

An information-based commercial cleaning training program that teaches the knowledge behind professional commercial cleaning — chemical safety, PPE, cross-contamination, restrooms, surface and floor care, equipment operation and the standards quality is judged against. The purpose is to help employees understand the principles behind the work, not simply memorize a sequence of tasks.

Read this part carefully

Clean-Skills Training is designed to support — not replace — an employer’s hands-on, workplace-specific training.

The training is narrated instruction with supporting visuals. It is not a demonstration of a cleaner performing each task on your site.

Every workplace is different

Employers remain responsible for training employees on their actual:

  • Facility
  • Equipment
  • Products and chemicals
  • Policies
  • Procedures
  • Workplace-specific requirements

Clean-Skills is designed to give employees a stronger knowledge foundation before or alongside workplace-specific training.

General commercial cleaning environments. Clean-Skills Training is not designed as training for healthcare or medical facilities, where additional infection prevention and control requirements, procedures, regulations and facility-specific training may apply.

From the Founder

Why I Built Clean-Skills Training

I spent years as a team lead in commercial cleaning. My job was not to get rid of employees who were not performing. It was to lead them, train them, and help them get it right. When an employee is struggling, the answer is not always a new employee. Often the answer is better training.
Founder, Clean-Skills TrainingMore than 24 years of experience in commercial cleaning, including extensive experience as a team lead.

Knowing how to complete a cleaning task is not always the same as understanding the principles behind it.

An employee may have been shown how to perform a task without being taught why the procedure matters, how products are meant to be used, or how cross-contamination occurs. That gap is the reason this program exists.

Throughout my experience, I continued to see many of the same knowledge gaps and incorrect practices in different workplaces. These are real examples I have personally observed.

  • Vinegar being used in place of a disinfectant.
  • The same cleaning cloth being used on toilets and sinks.
  • Cleaning water used throughout an entire facility without being changed when needed.
  • Floor finish and spray-buff products confused or used incorrectly.
Incorrect practices can come from shortcuts, inconsistent instruction, habits carried in from a previous workplace, or simply because an employee was never taught the knowledge behind the task. Clean-Skills was created to help address that training gap.

Genuine Differences in Depth

Foundations and Professional differ in content, not only in price

Foundations is intentionally foundational. Professional goes deeper in specific subject areas.

Microfiber cloths → cross-contamination

Foundations

A dedicated Microfiber Cloths module introduces the subject at the foundational level.

Professional

Microfiber cloths are covered in greater detail within the broader Cross Contamination module. The subject is carried forward, not removed.

Restroom training → restroom quality

Foundations

A Restroom Procedure module covers restroom work at the foundational level.

Professional

A longer, more detailed restroom module, followed by a separate Restroom Quality and Inspection module.

For Employers

Training That Helps You See Where More Support Is Needed

The assessments in Clean-Skills Training are not simply about passing a quiz. They give you another way to see where an employee demonstrates understanding, and where additional explanation, coaching or hands-on training may be beneficial.

More for employers

A clearer starting picture

Assessments run through the course and close with a final test, so you can see which subjects an employee has understood.

Coaching pointed at the right thing

When results show a subject an employee has not grasped, you know which conversation to have on site.

What an assessment does not do. Completing an online assessment does not prove hands-on workplace competency, and it does not replace hands-on evaluation, supervision or workplace-specific training.

Scope

This training supports hands-on instruction — it does not replace it

Clean-Skills Training is an information-based commercial cleaning course designed to support an employer’s hands-on training. It does not replace workplace-specific hands-on instruction, and employers remain responsible for appropriate workplace-specific training.

Visuals

Some supporting visuals are still being improved

Some images and visual demonstrations used throughout the training are currently a work in progress and may not precisely represent every product, piece of equipment, procedure or workplace setting. The instructional information and narration are the training content, and learners should rely on those rather than on the visuals alone.

Not healthcare

Not designed as healthcare or medical-facility cleaning training

Clean-Skills Training is intended for general commercial cleaning environments. Healthcare and medical environments may have specialised infection prevention, cleaning, disinfection, regulatory and facility-specific requirements that are outside the scope of this program.
