A More Consistent Knowledge Foundation to Build On

Clean-Skills Training gives employers structured, information-based commercial cleaning training that employees can complete before or alongside the hands-on, workplace-specific instruction you provide.

The Employer Challenge

Experience Alone Does Not Create a Consistent Knowledge Foundation

Cleaning employees do not all arrive with the same knowledge or training. Even employees with previous cleaning experience may have been trained differently at another workplace.

Training gets passed from person to person

Information can change depending on who is doing the training, so two employees in the same facility can end up performing the same task differently.

The steps without the reasoning

An employee may know the physical steps of a task without having been taught why the procedure matters, how contamination occurs, or how products differ.

Gaps nobody put there on purpose

Different employees have different gaps because of what they were previously taught, how they were trained, or what was simply never explained to them.

The Clean-Skills Approach

Clean-Skills Gives Employers a More Consistent Knowledge Foundation to Build On

Clean-Skills Training provides structured, information-based commercial cleaning training. Its role is to give employees a more consistent knowledge foundation that you can then build on through your own hands-on and workplace-specific training.

Knowing how to complete a cleaning task isn’t always the same as understanding it.

Knowledge Assessments

Seeing Where Someone May Need More Support

Knowledge questions run throughout the training, and each level finishes with a final assessment.

Knowledge assessments can help employers identify where additional coaching or hands-on instruction may be needed. Results may point to areas where an employee needs:

An assessment measures understanding of the instructional information. It does not demonstrate that an employee can physically perform a task — practical workplace competency still requires employer observation, hands-on instruction and workplace-specific evaluation.

The Division of Responsibility

What You Still Teach

Clean-Skills provides the information-based knowledge foundation. Everything specific to your workplace stays with you.

Clean-Skills Training is information-based training. It does not replace hands-on workplace instruction, practical employee evaluation, company policies, site-specific procedures, manufacturer instructions, regulatory requirements, employer safety responsibilities or facility-specific requirements. It is designed to complement them.

Documented Expectations

Something to Refer Back To

One of the problems Clean-Skills is intended to address is important information being passed differently from one person to another. Written procedures and standards give employers and employees something documented to return to.

What the written materials can support

  • Employee training and onboarding
  • Coaching and retraining
  • Consistent procedures across a team
  • Documented expectations
  • Supervisor reference and inspection expectations
  • Information employees can refer back to after training

Written inspection standards help create more consistent expectations, so supervisors are evaluating the same areas against the same standards.

Written procedures do not guarantee employee performance, and Clean-Skills documentation does not override your own policies or procedures.

From the Founder

The Thinking Behind the Program

As a team lead, my responsibility was not simply to get rid of employees who were not performing to standard. It was to lead them, train them, identify what they were struggling with and help them get it right.

Read My Story

When an employee is struggling, the answer is not always a new employee. Often the answer is better training.
Founder, Clean-Skills TrainingMore than 24 years of experience in commercial cleaning, including extensive experience as a team lead.

Designed for general commercial cleaning

Clean-Skills Training is designed for general commercial cleaning environments. It is not designed to provide training for healthcare or medical facilities, where additional infection prevention and control requirements, procedures, regulations and facility-specific training may apply.
